Summertime in Montana brings lots of flowers to the mountain meadows. I like to plant flowers in my garden, too. They grow and blossom and are especially beautiful at the end of summer.
But about that time every year, some little creature comes along and cuts all my flowers down and lays them in neat little rows!
At first, I couldn’t figure out which of my animal friends was doing this. That’s when I learned about pikas. They look like mice as big as rabbits, and they have no tails. They are usually shy, too.
Pikas live in rock piles and around boulders. They like to store grass and things in their dens so that in the winter, they will have food to eat. They especially like to eat flowers. It’s kind of like their deserts. They must think that my flower garden is like an ice cream store that I planted just for them! So they cut and store as many of my flowers as possible each fall.
Did you know that Bible verses are like flowers? Yes! If we keep our favorite Bible verses in our hearts, then when we need some encouragement, we can feast our hearts on them. I want to share with you some of my own favorites:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” Jeremiah 29:11, NIV.
(That’s my very favorite!)
The Apostle Paul wrote something like that, too: Can anything separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean that he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted or hungry, or destitute or in danger, or threatened with death? . . No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love, (Romans 8:35, 37, 38, NLT).
What are your favorite verses?
Until our next Campfire, be like pikas and store sweet flowers of Bible verses in your hearts!
Happy hugs,
Montana Gramma
